Published Apr 27, 2021Machine Gun Kelly's law dictates that if you stick around the music biz long enough without making it huge, you'll eventually pivot to a pop-punk song with Blink-182's Travis Barker. That worked on MGK's enormously successful Tickets to My Downfall, and now Willow Smith is trying the move for herself.
The daughter of Will and Jada first blew up in music with the release of "Whip My Hair" in 2010, when she was just 10 years old. Now, she's trying her hand at angsty alt punk with the new song "t r a n s p a r e n t s o u l."
In addition to Barker's familiar drumming, the song has a bit more of an alt rock edge than MGK's Blink impression. Think of it as more "Adam's Song" and less "What's My Age Again." Still, it fits perfectly into Barker's current resume of lifting up rising stars via poppunk.
"I am so grateful for this tune because it was created in such an introspective time (during the first couple months of quarantine)," Willow said in a press release. "It was the song that proved to me that I needed to let go of the insecurities I had about making a project of this genre"
Check out "t r a n s p a r e n t s o u l" below. The song will appear on Willow's upcoming LP, which will arrive this summer.
