Mary Lou Lord Slams Courtney Love in Social Media Rampage
Published Feb 04, 2016Busker turned singer-songwriter Mary Lou Lord is known to many through her friendships (or possibly more-than-friendships) with musicians like Kurt Cobain and Elliott Smith, but it's safe to say she's not on friendly terms with Cobain's widow Courtney Love. Lord took to Facebook over the weekend to speak out against Love, then followed it up with a second post yesterday (February 3).
In the massive rants, Lord lashes out against Love, releasing a well of hatred that has apparently been bubbling under the surface for a couple of decades. She cites fear as the reason she hadn't publicly denounced the Hole frontwoman until now.
"I was too scared," Lord wrote in the initial post. "And also, out of respect for Kurt's daughter who was a child. I also had my own child, and it's not cool to be putting anyone's parents down in a place where a child might see it. I kept my mouth shut for Frances. I didn't want to add more hate on top of what that poor kid must have already had to go through concerning the parent she had left. But now Frances is older, and married, and seems happy and grounded. That's all that would have been important to him. And I respected him."
She's clearly not scared anymore, unleashing a string of names for Love and her fans that include some choice C-words for the singer and her "Courtney-tard followers." Lord accuses Love of spreading lies about her (including an account about killing a cat) and attacking her character in the public sphere over a number of years (in interviews, Love accused Lord of exploiting her relationship with Cobain to gain success in her own musical career).
After the first post, Lord followed up, thanking people for "tolerating" the rant and expanding on her anger towards Love for smack-talking her in the press at the height of Hole's success, as well as opening up about her relationships to Cobain and Smith.
