Waterloo's Starlight Social Club Is Closing Permanently
The Starlight Social Club — a popular bar and live music venue in Waterloo — is closing its doors for good after initially shutting down due to COVID-19 in March.

As CTV Kitchener reports, owner Josh Koehler confirmed that the venue has closed permanently after 15 years. Koehler told the broadcaster that within the last year, it was a challenge to fill the 300-capacity room for shows prior to further pandemic restrictions.

Artists that have graced the Starlight's stage across 15 years of music-making include Caribou, Dan Mangan, Austra, BADBADNOTGOOD, Arkells, Steve Aoki, the Constantines, Hollerado, Neko Case, Rich Aucoin, Sloan, Tokyo Police Club and many more. The venue boasts a more complete archival list on its website.

The Starlight Social Club follows the Orbit Room and the Beaver as the latest Ontario venue to close its doors as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Artists and venue owners alike continue to press the government for support in hopes of avoiding further damage to a crucial component of the country's music ecosystem.
