Songwriter Maren Morris revealed that the storm "must have missed our block by an inch," and although she was safe, the artist said she felt "so depleted looking at the damage that has happened to our beautiful city."
The tornado must have missed our block by an inch because we are alright but I am so depleted looking at the damage that has happened to our beautiful city. There are so many people in the streets helping already, though. Thinking of those who lost their loved ones + homes. pic.twitter.com/pv2VPCafhc— MAREN MORRIS (@MarenMorris) March 3, 2020
Country star Dierks Bentley also narrowly avoided the storm, landing at the airport in Nashville just before the tornado began.
We ducked around this cell and landed at john tune airport around 11:30 last night. Glad we landed when we did. Wouldn't have been good an hour later. It was the cell that turned into the tornado. Lot of people lost their homes. No one comes together as a city like Nashville does pic.twitter.com/qvCjrYNu0x— Dierks Bentley (@DierksBentley) March 3, 2020
Jack White's Third Man Record headquarters in Nashville announced that it would be closing for the day to help those affected by the tornado.
Sending love & support to our friends and neighbors who have been tragically effected by last night's tornado. TMR Nashville will be closed today. Let's take a moment to hug those you love and to help some folks in your community that you may not know... Love, Third Man Records— Third Man Records (@thirdmanrecords) March 3, 2020
Others like Kacey Musgraves, Reese Witherspoon and Connie Britton of the show Nashville have also sent their regards to the city from farther away. See some of those messages below.
There are 19 confirmed deaths caused by the tornado so far, with many others injured and extensive damage to houses and buildings.
A number of organizations like Hands on Nashville, the Red Cross and United Way are currently ramping up relief efforts in the city.
Me and my fam are safe but many friends aren't so lucky. We did live right in one of the worst hit spots a matter of months ago. It's so crazy. I'm so nervous to find out who the fatalities are. Nashville is so tight knit. 💔 I'm gonna help in any way I can. https://t.co/kfzGmtbixI— K A C E Y (@KaceyMusgraves) March 3, 2020
