"I'm producing it all. It's going to be gothic, there's going to be tribal chants in there as well. There's going to be a few rock samples."

Last night, Backxwash took home the 2020 Polaris Music Prize for her album God Has Nothing to Do with This Leave Him Out of It. Not one to rest on her laurels, the recent Exclaim! cover star has already shed light on plans for her next album.

During a press conference following her Polaris win, Backxwash was asked about her plans for the $50,000 prize money. She explained, "It's probably going to go back into the record, because I'm going to release another record next year."

She added that some of the cash might go towards clearing a sample from avant-garde artist Diamanda Galás' 1982 album The Litanies of Satan.

She further revealed, "It's going to be like a horror anthology. Each track is going to depict different characters, inspired by real characters in my life. I'm producing it all. It's going to be gothic, there's going to be tribal chants in there as well. There's going to be a few rock samples."

While the record doesn't yet have a confirmed title or release date, she's aiming for a spring or summer release in 2021. And given how quickly she lived up to her promises for the recent STIGMATA EP, it seems like a pretty good bet that she'll be on-schedule.

Back in June, Exclaim! named God Has Nothing to Do with This Leave Him Out of It the best album of 2020 so far.
