Netflix Just Spent $100 Million So You Can Keep Watching Old Episodes of 'Friends'
Adding further proof that the streaming wars are only beginning, Netflix just dropped a serious amount of cash so that viewers can keep watching old episodes of Friends. In fact, it reportedly just dropped a whopping $100 million USD.

The video streaming service paid out the reported $100 million so it can keep showing the '90s TV sitcom throughout 2019, the New York Times reports. And to put that all in perspective for you, that's triple the $30 million USD a year Netflix had previously been paying to stream the show.

The NYT report cited two unidentified people with direct knowledge of Netflix's deal with the series' rights holder, which is AT&T. And while Netflix itself did not officially reveal just how much it forked over for Friends, the company did confirm in a tweet that it would now keep streaming the show in 2019. So if you are still unsure about your New Year's resolution, maybe make a promise to keep streaming decades-old episodes of Friends. After all, this stuff doesn't come cheap.
